Sorry the video resolution isn't high. I'm runnign OS X 10.9.3 and Office 2011. In PowerPoint 2001 I create a simple shape and attempt to use Command-C to copy and subsequently Command-V to paste, and it clears/cuts the shape. Furthermore, when I click on the shape, the 'Copy' command isn't available under Edit in the menu. PowerPoint will not allow me to paste anything into a slide. I have tried text into a text box, shapes, entire slides. It allows me to copy or cut, but when I try to paste it is greyed out or does nothing when I use Command+V on my MacBook Pro. Highlight any text on any window on the Mac, including a TextEdit document, words on a Web page or even the title of a file in Finder. To take up as little memory in the clipboard as possible, you can highlight a single letter, a space between two words or a punctuation mark. I have no idea why this happens but it works like this: I copy a graphic or text from outside PowerPoint and when I try to paste it into PowerPoint it will not work. PP acts as if there is nothing on the clipboard. The solution that works for me is to delete something from the PowerPoint slide.
That thing–the Paste Options button–is your friend, a worker bee and not a fly whose only job is to follow your formatting instructions. Learning how it works keeps you from wasting time manually formatting pasted text.

Click the down-arrow on the Paste Options button and you’ll see a menu with icons that lets you format copied text in different ways. The options you’ll see depend on where you’re cutting and pasting from and to, e.g., from within or between documents. These are the four most common options:
- Keep Source Formatting: Keeps the formatting of the text you copied
- Use Destination Styles: Matches the formatting where you pasted your text
